Next week I am headed into Building 1, so expect a flood of photos.

It’s a monster or a building.

This is “The Big Room”, which is approx. 1.6 Million sqft, roughly the size of Building 290….and it’s just one room. The entire building, which I’ll be exploring, is too large for words.

You can imagine how intimidating this place is as a photographer. Not to mention that some places have lead paint dust, so for some portions of the shoot I’m in a Tyvek suit wearing a respirator.

This is my job.

Had the 4th of July in ‘09 off from work, so I went and enjoyed work.

The hatch of the Space Shuttle.

NOTE: This is NOT Enterprise, haha.

I can not and will not tell you where this is located, but be it known that this is my next photographic project and this was merely a scouting photo that I enjoyed.

This is literally the first Space Shuttle ever built. Completed in 1968, it served as a “Full-Scale DE mockup”, which was primarily used for design and engineering. Used as recently as the mid-90’s to place mock-up payloads within, it currently sits in storage awaiting funds to be restored and put on display.

Interesting to note it was placed up against a wall in its original configuration, so it has no left wing and the rudder is only 5 feet tall, as the real rudder would have been too tall for the room it was in. Plans are to complete the entire structure during restoration.

Seriously, what is this thing?

Panels with labels stand perfectly still.

This, to me, is the best photo I have ever taken.

To me, this is pure art.

Everything about it is perfect to me and I don’t ever intend on touching it.
